Oh the horror!
by betoman on Jul.30, 2009, under Family, Humor
This past Saturday Liz and Emmy decided to do some gardening before it got too hot. So around 10am they went up front to re-plant some of her “plants”, add some dirt and then finish off by watering our poor “hay colored” grass. I went out and was talking to Liz then took over watering the lawn. As I was walking around spraying the water on much appreciative lawn – I swear I could hear it going “ahhhhh….” – I started to water the bushes up by our home foundation.
As I was sweeping the hose back and forth a sudden movement caught my eye. Did I just see something slip into a hole by those rocks? You always see all kinds of little animals/reptiles/insects at our home so I gave the hose back to Liz and just watched the area by the rocks.
After about 2 mins, this little snake popped out it’s head. I smiled and called out to Liz,
“Hey Honey! Come check this out!”
She looks over at me then the area I’m pointing to…
“What…what is it?”
“Nothing…come on over,” a big smile creeping across my face.
“You’d better not scare me Gilbert…” and she threatens me with the hose.
…aah…the woman knows me too well.
She walked over and in her Tyrannosaurs Rex position – you know – hands up to your chest like the Tyrannosaurs Rex does? She looks over to what I’m pointing to.
“Agh!” Liz exclaimed. “Emmy and I were just digging there!”and she begins to try to brush off the goosebumps appearing on her arms.
She must have scared the little guy too because he repeated his “dive into his foxhole” as before. I took that opportunity to go inside and grab the camera. After another two minutes, “It Rose from the Depths” and I snapped these photos then whipped up a little 1960’s Horror film text to compliment the event.
When I showed Liz what I was going to post, she just responded, “Ha, ha..very funny Gilbert.”

I’ve been waiting for this movie.
by betoman on Jul.28, 2009, under Movies
I was always a big fan of the original TRON movie. Never mind the cutting edge computer graphics (at the time) or the cool story line but I really (still do) enjoyed this movie.
I’d been hearing there was going to be new movie coming out and they finally showed a trailer for it at this year’s ComicCon 2009 in San Diego. I saw it on some other sites and I’ve noticed they wouldn’t allow you to embed it into your website – until now.
Below is the trailer. Make sure you watch it in HD.
I can’t wait.

A very interesting way to photograph your toys
by betoman on Jul.26, 2009, under Around the Web
I was looking online to view some pictures of the costumes people might be wearing at this year’s ComicCon and while browsing Flickr – I stumbled across this guy’s set of pictures.
He obviously collects Statuettes and he took pictures of them as if they were models. He uses a very nice shallow depth of field on his photos and some great lighting but I can’t figure out if he’s adding the back ground or generating them in Photoshop.
I’m going to have to try this by creating my own softbox and then give it a whirl since I do have “some” statuettes lying around here. :-)
The photos are pretty cool. I’ve posted some pictures below but check out the guy’s Flickr slideshow at the bottom:

New Profile picture for my Facebook account
by betoman on Jul.25, 2009, under Around the Web, Creativity, Star Trek, TV
I decided I would try something new (for me that is) by creating a new profile picture or image for my FaceBook account.
As all of you know I’m a big fan of Star Trek and The Next Generation is probably my most favorite of all the series. So I decided to come up with a “profile badge” of the Star Trek TNG uniform.
I did some research online (as if I couldn’t remember the uniform) and then fired up Photoshop. It was a combination of layers with simple shapes and colors to create the uniform. I must admit though – I just took the communicator badge artwork from a site and cropped it down. Hey…if it ain’t broke – don’t fix it.
Here is what I came up with.
I like it and I’ve posted it to my Facebook account.
This opens up a lot of possibilities now – I’m thinking of doing some more badges for my Facebook account – Lost in Space B-9 robot, Robby the Robot, Calvin and Hobbes…the possibilities are only limited by my creativity.
Thanks for letting me share.

I love Star Wars just as much as the next guy but…
by betoman on Jul.24, 2009, under Around the Web, Movies, Star Wars
Sorry I haven’t posted in a while – been busy with my new team NICE WORK for the 48hr film challenge set to begin on Aug 8th. We’ve had our first team meeting and it went well. We are going to do great (again) this year.
So I was surfing the internet catching up on the blogs I visit daily and I came across a couple of interesting items.
Light Saber Chop sticks?
I must admit they do look intriguing. But c’mon. that’s almost as bad as having Romulan Ale…okay I admit it – I have some of that in my fridge. Big shout out to my Bro-in-Law Jesse who got that for me.
But back to the Light Saber chop sticks. I checked them out at the Kotous website and they do look cool. They come in a nice R2D2 packaging. Apparently they will have more information at their booth at ComiCon 2009. But it’s also one of times where I slap my forehead and say, “Why didn’t I think if that!”
ComicCon – I need to go to that someday.
Now – here’s another interesting tidbit of Star Wars fan lore. What do you make of this picture on the left? You can click on it to make it larger.
Apparently it’s the Star Wars cast in a photo shoot during Star Wars for the 1978 SEARS CATALOG!
Wow, what a a great picture of the iconic actors doing something before they were really famous. See you can name the characters…besides the obvious ones, you know, the ones with out fur, metal or shiny plastic armor.
Pretty cool stuff for a Friday. Have a great weekend.

PS – see if you guessed like me. From right to left back row first.
Han Solo – Darth Vader – Chewbacca – Princess Leia (of course), Luke Skywalker and R2D2.
