The fans are asking…

by betoman on Sep.21, 2009, under BSS Highlight reels, Blessed Sacrament Catholic School Football, Sports

…for another highlight reel.

I didn’t do one from our victory on Monday Sept 14th game and I wasn’t planning on doing one for this past Friday’s victory either…but I’m getting grief, as is my son. So I caved and put together a slightly longer reel from this past Friday.

I filmed from the stands this time with a tripod for a fan’s perspective. I hope to appease the fans with a little old school music and was experimenting with timing to the music. That’s tough, timing action to beats of music…but I’m pleased. See the clip below.

Oh…my boy at 1:28 seconds…I almost missed it. I was trying to just get a nice shot of the defensive line penetrating and I got lucky. Also, look for some cool head butts in the background at 2:47, made me laugh.

I think I can…I think I can…

by betoman on Sep.20, 2009, under DIY

The other day my son came over and showed me his Nintendo DS lite. Somehow the hinge had broken. The good news is that it still works. I can power it up but it would be useless as is.

Of course you know me.

“Hmmm…I think I can fix that.”

So on to the internet super highway (jeez who calls it that anymore) I surf to find replacement cases and instructions.

There are a lot out there. Ranging in all kinds of prices. My concern is ordering it from China or Hong Kong so I’ll try to stick a US based company that I could order from. I’ll need a special “tri-wing” screwdriver and nerves of steel.

Apparently this is not for the faint of heart, but here’s my rationale.

If I can spend about $30 and fix it, then I’ve saved myself about $100. I’m quite impressed with how long my son has kept his DS Lite so I figured fixing it will place me among the ranks of those “Modders” out there that replace their game consoles with cool cases. Although it will be for my son, I’m sure he’ll tell folks, “My Dad fixed it for me.”

High praise indeed. Plus my buddy Jim replaced an iPhone screen – so I’m inspired.

I’m going to do some more research and get a replacement case. But not a white one…a different “cool one.” oooooooooooooooo…….

We’ll see. I’ll post more on my blog as the process continues.

Wish me luck.

No Football game yesterday…

by betoman on Sep.12, 2009, under Blessed Sacrament Catholic School Football, Film making, Sports

Bummer. No football game yesterday. We’ve had a lot of rain the past couple of days – not arguing because we need it – so the coaches from both teams decided it was not worth tearing up the football field.

But isn’t that what football is all about?

They are going to reschedule the game for this Monday at 6pm!

I was kinda bummed. I was already to go out and film a “muddy” clash of warriors. I don’t think a mud bowl for middle school had ever been filmed and I was up for the challenge.

I even rigged up a rain cover for my camera and shoulder mount. I found some clear plastic zip boxes and cut one up to fit over my camera. Oh well – next time.

Maybe it will still be a a bit muddy on Monday. We’ll see.

Some good news though, since we didn’t have a football game, me and the familia got some electronic upgrades. I finally got me an iPhone! Whoo Hoo! I took this picture with it! I’ll post more later on my iPhone.

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure

by betoman on Sep.09, 2009, under Misc.

Recognize this hang tag? You get one about every six months and if you’re like me…a sigh escapes when you realize it’s time to get rid of that stuff you’ve been hoarding around the house from old building projects or un-used items. Kinda like a squirrel stores nuts for winter.

Like a water heater your replaced but just didn’t want to haul to the dump or tree limbs you trimmed which again, was just easier to place them against the house where no one could see them.

So you see this bright color hang tag, smile and say out loud, “Finally!”

This past weekend Joaquin and I placed our old 20 year water heater out on the front sidewalk along with the frame my brother and I knocked out because they built the door AROUND the water heater…go figure.

I also placed an old lawn mower that I swore I would sell at a garage sale for five bucks.

Five bucks…I held onto the decrepade mower for four years to earn FIVE BUCKS. I did tell Joaquin I’d give him FIVE BUCKS to take the wheels off though…funny.

We dragged those items out on Sunday around 1:00pm and by 1:45pm – both items had been picked up by some passerby’s!

Oh..M…Gee. 45 minutes. I couldn’t believe it.

I know what you’re thinking. “Water heaters make great BBQ pits” – not the way this one smelled. Plus the mower was missing wheels! It just amazed me until…

I was driving back with Joaquin from a Boy Scout meeting on Tuesday night and I saw a chair out on the sidewalk of a house up the street. I screeched to a halt and instructed a bewildered 13 year old in a Boy Scout uniform to jump out and place the chair in the back of our truck.

“Don’t question your Father! Just do it”

…finally I got to use the line my Father used on me oh so many times.

Tonight I went to work and fixed one of our chairs. See gallery below.

Funny thing though, when I proudly showed the chair to Liz – specifically stated how my ingenuity and resourcefulness had saved us some money, I thought I finally had a comeback to her comments of past.

You know the one…”It was on sale so I saved us THIS MUCH MONEY!”

Yeah, that fell on deaf ears. I was hoping I could add some accessories to my impending iPhone purchase but to no avail.

All I got was, “Hmmm…looks good. I think I’ll keep you.” She slapped me on my butt and walked off.

Sigh,

Bulldogs 0 – Cardinals 8

by betoman on Sep.06, 2009, under BSS Highlight reels, Blessed Sacrament Catholic School Football, Sports

It was a defensive battle this past Friday against the Blessed Sacrament Bulldogs and the St Matthews Cardinals. Click below to see this past Friday’s game highlights.

My boy is at 1:23 seconds – watch #79 come in to the picture and pull the pile back…on himself.

It was a tough game against the St. Matthew’s Cardinals. Both teams were evenly matched but the Cardinals beat us by one touchdown.

Defense was the key. We were mere inches from a touchdown from a long pass to Chris (#5) who dragged three defenders within inches of the endzone – the Bulldogs didn’t score. The only touchdown was from the Cardinals scored from short yardage. So it was a game of inches.

I was out on the field videotaping the game and I told myself that I wouldn’t be putting up highlights of each game – but I got some good shots of our boys putt’n licks on the other team and some good running/catching.

GO BULLDOGS GO!
