A football music video to aspire to…
by betoman on Dec.28, 2009, under Around the Web, Creativity, Sports
I know most of you know that this past year, I videotaped and edited some of my son’s middle school football highlight reels from the games. The more I did them, the better I got at editing the video to the music beat – I think but you tell me.
Then I stumbled across this video. OMG…this was great! I don’t watch this show but I might if this isn’t just the best part.
Oh…stick with the video till the end – you won’t be disappointed.

Cyber Christmas Carolers?
by betoman on Dec.24, 2009, under Around the Web
Just when you thought you’d seen everything…Robots dancing to Christmas music.
I must it admit, it does look cool though. Although, I see them and think of the song, “Hey Mickey.”

Red Pink Morning
by betoman on Dec.19, 2009, under Creativity
My son and I were on our way to his 2nd basketball game this morning. His team is in a tournament at Central High School. It was 7:15am ugh…but we had to be there at 7:30 for an 8am game.
As I was stepping out into the chilly morning (38 degrees) I saw as I was exiting my front door. I stood there marveling the majestic site in front of me then walked back into the house, grabbed my wife’s camera and snapped this picture (you can click it for a larger size).
Quite a different setting of my neighbor’s home than before.
This picture is really cool – no pun intended.

The Apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree…
by betoman on Dec.16, 2009, under Family
I picked up my son and daughter as my wife had to attend an “after hours” function tonight. I showed up around 5:30pm to get my daughter (Emmy) from after school care and she and I went to over to the gym to pick up Joaquin from daily Basketball (BBall) practice.
As we were driving home I made sure to ask them (from the list my wife had provided me):
- How was school today?
- Do you have any homework?
- Did you bring it home?
- Do you have all your stuff?
- Let me check.
Emmy stated that she had to finish up her PowerPoint presentation (she’s 9) for her Science experiment. I said, “Okay Mija, you can work on your Mom’s laptop while I make dinner.” Joaquin did not have any homework but I told him he’d have to fold his clothes from the laundry I did on Sunday.
When we got home, I reminded my son to fold his clothes while Emmy fired up my wife’s laptop.
In my day, we just went to our rooms and cracked opened our books, expertly covered in Butter Crust book cover paper.
I made spaghetti (broke a spoon) and had dinner while we watched Sing Off on ABC. Pretty good show, if you haven’t caught it.
Finally around 8pm I made them take showers but afterwards, Emmy came to me and asked if I could help her test her Science experiment.
“Put these on Daddy, do I look blurry?”
She was doing a Science experiment with a school mate on how animals and insects see…
I was to look through some safety goggles that she had “modified” so it would be as if I had fly-eyes. They were blurry. So she got it right.
“See Daddy, a fly can’t focus on one thing since it has many eyes…”
She had cut up a plastic cup then placed the squares on the goggles I had lent her and wrapped the whole thing in Glad Cling wrap. Works for me…I took them off since I was getting a headache. You can click on the pictures for a larger picture.
My daughter snickered and went off to bed knowing that the “fly-eye goggles” she had built herself, worked on Dad.
Oh, did I mention she had built a POWERPOINT presentation too? She’s nine. Amazing.
Got another Scientist in the making – we’ve been involved in helping our son do his Science projects in the past. Click here to see his 2007, 2008 and 2009 projects.
I just love my family.
Thanks for letting me share.

Foggy night at Little Leaf Drive
by betoman on Dec.14, 2009, under Creativity
It has been foggy all day today. I can’t remember last time I had seen the fog so thick during the day.
Tonight around 9pm, my wife LIz went to the grocery store to pick up some groceries. I stayed home with the kids.
At 9:30pm, she called to let me know she was on her way home. I told her to be careful since the fog was still thick outside.
“I will,” she said and I waited.
Soon I heard the familiar hum of the garage door opening and then heard her call out to me to help unload groceries. I put on my Crocs and stepped out into the foggy night.
The air was thick and heavy as I began to unload several of the green HEB bags from the car trunk. I could feel the damp, sound-suppressing moisture pressing on exposed skin of my arms.
Funny…no dogs were barking. There are always dogs barking…
Suddenly I felt a cool breeze tickle the hairs on the back of my neck.
As I lifted that last of the groceries – two one gallon milk jugs, I closed the trunk and noticed shadows dancing on my driveway.
I looked back and saw my neighbor’s tree…shrouding the corner street light. For a few seconds I was mesmerized by the sight of light emanating from the tree limbs.
Was that a low, gurgling, moan I heard off in the distance?
My fixation with scene before me was broken when Liz called out to me.
“Is that all the groceries?” she asked from the kitchen.
Suddenly my survival instinct surfaced. My posture changed and the grip on the two one gallon milk jugs tightened. This is how that sap in the movies dies, lulled by false sense of security thinking nothing will happen to him near his home…then the Zombies strike.
Yes…my over active imagination working overtime again.
Quickly and with purpose, I began to walk towards the safety of my garage. If the Undead where to suddenly block my path, I would strike them with the milk jugs. The cool opaque liquid would temporary blind my attackers…just enough time for me to reach my numerous cache of cordless tools (weapons) near my work bench.
I had seen Zombies before and I was not going to be a victim tonight.
“What’s wrong Gilbert?” Liz asked as I safely crossed the threshold of my garage and stepping into the kitchen. With a heavy sigh, I placed the milk jugs on the counter.
I walked into my study and grabbed her camera – then went outside and snapped a couple of pictures of the image that inspired this brief glimpse of what goes on in this crazy head of mine….
